Now firmly established as one of the highlights of the Trust calendar, the event brought together our primary and secondary schools for a day of friendly competition, teamwork and celebration. Throughout the day, pupils competed in football, rounders, and quiz challenges, while staff also took to the field in their own fiercely contested competitions, all earning valuable points towards the Cranmer Cup.
Staff also took part in their own competitions, with plenty of determination and friendly rivalry on display.
East Crompton St George’s Primary School claimed victory in the rounders competition, while Little Heaton CE Primary School secured first place in both the football and quiz.
Those results saw Little Heaton crowned the overall primary champions with 14 points, followed by East Crompton St George’s in second place. St John’s Thornham and St Matthew’s finished jointly in third.
Blue Coat School enjoyed another successful Cranmer Games, finishing as the overall winner across the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 competitions.

The staff events were just as competitive, with Saddleworth School winning the rounders, The Radclyffe School taking first place in the quiz and Blue Coat School winning the football.
Consistent performances across all three events saw Brian Clarke Academy crowned the overall staff champions. When the pupil and staff scores were combined, Blue Coat School retained the Cranmer Cup for a fourth consecutive year.
The Cranmer Games are about much more than the final scores. Across the pitches and activity spaces, pupils and staff supported one another, represented their schools with pride and helped create a brilliant atmosphere throughout the day.
There was no shortage of encouragement from the sidelines either, with Donna from St Anne’s bringing extra energy to proceedings with her pom-poms and enthusiastic support.
Following the competitions and awards, everyone came together to enjoy a hog roast and reflect on the day. It provided an opportunity to relax, share stories from the different events and strengthen the relationships between colleagues and schools from across the Trust.
A huge thank you goes to St Anne’s Academy for hosting the Cranmer Games so brilliantly for the fourth consecutive year, and to every pupil, member of staff and volunteer who helped make the event such a success.
