Great Horizons recognised for community impact at ENAs 2026

Great Horizons, a major partnership project created to raise aspirations and strengthen opportunities for young people across Oldham, has been recognised at the Educate North Awards 2026.

Representatives from Cranmer Education Trust attended the awards evening at Emirates Old Trafford, where Great Horizons was shortlisted as a finalist in two community engagement categories.

The project brings together education, civic, university, business and community partners with a shared ambition: to inspire young people, strengthen connections between schools and the wider community, and open up future pathways in science, learning and employment.

Great Horizons has already brought together schools, teachers and partners from across Oldham, including a high-profile event attended by Professor Brian Cox.

The event celebrated the work of science teachers and highlighted the importance of collaboration between schools, universities, employers and local organisations in helping young people see the opportunities available to them.

The project is a partnership involving the University of Manchester, Cranmer Education Trust, Pinnacle Learning Trust, Oldham Enterprise Trust, Oldham Council, Oldham Athletic Football Club, and Oldham Sixth Form College.

“We were delighted to see Great Horizons recognised at the ENAs 2026. The project is a powerful example of what can happen when schools, trusts, civic partners, universities and community organisations come together around a shared ambition for young people.
Great Horizons is about raising aspirations, strengthening STEM opportunities and showing pupils that their future can be bigger than they imagined. To be recognised in two community engagement categories is a real celebration of the partnership, the teachers involved and the young people this work is designed to support.”

The Educate North Awards celebrate innovation, impact and excellence across education in the North. This year’s event welcomed more than 700 guests and a record number of entries.

Great Horizons continues to support the wider ambition of building stronger links between schools, partners and communities, helping young people across Oldham access meaningful experiences, role models and future opportunities.
