The DfE recognises St Anne's Academy as one of the top schools for attendance

Our Trust school, St Anne's Academy in Middleton, has been recognised by the Department for Education (DfE) as a higher-performing school for attendance.

The recognition, announced this week through the DfE’s Similar Schools report, places St Anne’s among a small number of schools nationally whose attendance outcomes are significantly stronger than those of comparable schools.

This achievement comes at a time when attendance across England remains a major challenge, with many schools still below pre-pandemic levels. The DfE’s letter highlights St Anne’s as a model of strong practice and invites other schools to contact the Academy to learn from its approach.

"Being recognised by the Department for Education for our attendance is a testament to the commitment of our students, families, and staff. At St Anne’s Church of England Academy, we believe that strong attendance is the foundation for strong learning, and this acknowledgement reflects the collective effort of our entire school community. We are incredibly proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to working with other schools to share our experience of improving attendance".

In its latest national attendance reports, the DfE highlighted St Anne’s as a school demonstrating effective practice and strong outcomes in both overall attendance and reduced persistent absence. St Anne's will now feature as a higher-performing school in the national Similar Schools report, visible to schools across the country. Other schools may contact St Anne's to learn from its successful attendance practices and strategies.

This recognition follows a year of significant momentum for St Anne’s Academy, including its best-ever GCSE results, and continued improvement across behaviour, culture, and student support. The Academy was also judged 'Good' in all areas by Ofsted in its most recent inspection, showcasing just how far the school has come in such a short space of time.
