Governors play an important role in our Trust’s mission, vision and values to create great schools at the heart of our communities. They work as a team, overseeing the work of the school, acting as a “critical friend” to the Senior Leadership Team and holding the school to account for performance and development.
We want our Local Governing Committees to be inclusive and reflective of the local communities we serve. We welcome governors from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences and with a broad range of skills and knowledge. There are no set qualifications for becoming a governor and you will receive all the training and support needed to fulfil the role. We ask for a commitment to attend four meetings a year plus a few school visits and to abide by our Governor Code of Conduct, based on the seven principles of public life.
If you are passionate about making a difference for our children and young people and want to play a part in creating great schools at the heart of a local community then we want to hear from you. Being a governor is more than a role—it’s a calling to serve. You’ll:
Governors come from all walks of life —teachers, parents, business leaders, or community members. You don’t need prior experience; we provide full training through our governance induction and ongoing support. Expect to commit 10-12 hours per school term, including meetings, school visits, and preparation. Bring an open mind, a willingness to learn, and a desire to make a difference for our children.
Governors support and challenge school leaders to deliver excellent quality of provision, ensuring alignment with Cranmer’s mission. You’ll uphold our values and culture. Your input shapes school policies, from curriculum to home learning, behaviour and educational visits and much more.
Anyone over 18 with a passion for education can apply—parents, staff, community members, or professionals. We value diversity, seeking governors who reflect our schools’ varied communities. You’ll need a clean DBS check and no disqualifying factors (e.g., bankruptcy). Previous governance or education experience is a bonus, but not required—we’ll equip you to succeed.
LGC meetings, held 4-6 times per year, focus on school performance and community needs. You’ll review data (e.g., exam results, attendance), discuss policies (e.g., behaviour), and hear from school leaders. Expect lively debates and collaborative decisions.
Ready to join? Complete the form below to express interest. Our governance team will reach out to discuss your application, arrange an informal chat, and outline the recruitment process. Successful candidates undergo a DBS check, induction training, and start shaping schools with us.
